In the Dark of Night

Poem Artwork

Dense and dark is the night,
Air crisp, as a light fog begins to form.
You are in the wood in darkness,
As the sounds of the night cease,
With your timid arrival.

Halt and listen to the sounds,
 Of the living darkness around you.
Draw breath despite your fear;
For in the night
 Is danger,
From an evil not yet known.

Calm your soul,
And lay motionless
Your reckless limbs.
Lurch not into the night,
For flight does not safety bring.

Is it death you fear,
Or a fate far worse;
Like endless suffering,
Torture before ignominious demise?

The black of night yields fear,
To even the bravest heart,
For we all know that there are monsters there,
Imagined, but surely living,
In the deep darkness of the wood.

Frank,
This captured my attention from the begining. Very well written and as CJ says, it leaves the reader wanting more. You have a very talented pen!

Many Blessings,
~Linda

This has a wolf and prey tone to it, a little sinister, yes, but great in that it reads like a story and making me want to hear more! Very nice work, Frank.
Love,
CJ
