Regrettably, the florid days of summer
Yield to autumn,
With an explosion of blazing color;
Barter for the theft of warmth,
And comfort,
And a life lived fully
From dawn till dusk.
I feel the bite of cooling earth,
In darkness as I start my day.
Looking suspiciously over my shoulder,
I sense a stalking villain,
Laying in wait,
Ambush on his mind.
The arboretum that surrounds me,
Is decked-out in seasonal best,
Wearing coats of brilliant colors,
Boastfully adorned
For the annual harvest ball.
Fall has a feel of her own,
And a smell that tells you the time of year.
There is a subtle nervousness across the land,
As dark clouds fly low,
And we fill our cups with cider,
And carve brave smiles,
In Jack-O-Lantern’s visage.
Tomorrow,
With stunning coats tossed
So carelessly on forest’s floor,
Giant skeletons will stand ominous,
Tall and alone,
And will guard for a season,
The remnant of glorious days.
"I feel the bite of cooling earth" You know its coming.
Great piece.
