Angelic Sounds in the Night

Poem Artwork

Was it you, father,
Who touched my slumber
in the night
so deep?
startled was i
initially,
breathless fear
overcoming dreams
discreet.

heart racing,
senses on alert,
as I naturally considered
an intruder,
But no footsteps,
alarm,
or barking dogs
did I observe.

No, all was quiet,
no need for reflex,
fight or flight,
But with chills
gently coursing
from head to toe,
there was something
exceptional in the night.

It was music,
unlike any I had ever heard,
certainly played
on instruments,
not indigenous
to our world.

it was a beautiful melody,
played not on piano,
strings, or horns,
not new age synthesized
tunes were these,
reminiscent of calm
or storm.

In moments,
this music overcame me,
as I considered its possible source,
then just as quickly
I fully succumbed to it,
as the notes rose
in power and force.

the arrangement was other-worldly,
I am sure,
angelic,
I came to believe,
the purpose was clearly
adoration,
for no more beautiful sound
has ever been heard.

and now I am left
with the original question,
of who delivered
this gift to me.
Who cares enough
to bring angelic song,
which awakens me
from my sleep?
But as I calmly
consider the question,
in view of my recent loss,
I roll over and begin the ritual,
that requires me to turn and toss.
and I am left with the
inescapable notion,
that there is one
who hurts to see me sad,
and in that moment
I answer the question,
as I am certain that it was my dad.

I still have my father and the thought of not leaves me cold. Reading your poem above captured me forcing the issue that I choose not to think about. So glad you had such a comforting ending as your words sunk deep. Well done, Deborah

It is so lonely at nights when you lost a loved one whether a Dad or husband. I can relate to this poem as I awaken and lie awake at night wishing my husband beside me and sometimes I feel his presence is coming to me by an angel. All is well with our loved ones and God is keeping them busy and taking good care of them and we are with them always in spirit.

I believe our loved ones do come back once gone-this was so well-written and kept in time as well as being emotional and spiritual.

This had me in tears...
Music can bring such sweet messages. Isn't it nice to know that the veil between our worlds is often thin...
I am sure that no matter what your dad hurts to see you so sad.
I hope this experience helps to bring you some peace.

I love this, Frank. I reminds me of a pretty sacred experience I had once... I'll have to tell you about it some time--not here...

Suffice it to say, I'll bet it was your dad. And I'll bet he's glad you heard it. That's some story.

Take care. --Charlie

...your poetic remembrance of your father...beautifully orchestrated...coming over...across...should never be forgotten...but always let the angels touch you with his prescence forever.
loving tribute to your father...he will always live in you Frank.
