Faded Friends

Poem Artwork

Hello to you,
Faded friends of mine;
Where on earth have you gone?
I would not know you,
Nor you know me,
So much of life
Has been left on the graveyard lawn.

My father,
Who I loved,
Is a memory.
Do you remember when I talked of him?
So much of my life,
And who I am,
Was a magical gift
To me from him.

But he, too, was your friend,
Or so you would have had me believe,
But there is so much that I see
In these sad memories,
When images of you
Roughly force their way in.

Fools were we,
But you knew that,
And sadly
The advantage was yours,
For blindly we loved you,
And gave all that we had,
While you sat in a corner
And kept the score.

In the end
It was a matter of Veracity,
And lies were born
To cover other deceit,
But who can be sure
What is truly so,
When the lies that you hear,
Become the truth that you know?

It is,
Former friends,
A matter of grief,
And the healing that we needed
Took years to achieve.
No more can it be
In our humble life on earth,
That we will again have friends
That we can ever believe.

But in the end
We wish you well,
But there’s no place for you here,
In our own private hell,
For despite the pain
That we’ve been asked
To go through,
We are better alone
Than we ever were with you.

This is very mysterious. There is an interesting complexity in this poem that I have read many times. I still keep wondering who they are...
Intriguing lines.

I am never disappointed in reading your words. Your words carry thoughts of my own faded friends right to my heart. May you have many vibrantly colored friends who stand by you...

What a sad epitaph to a friendship! May it never be said of me! So much lying going on here-- lying beneath the ground in graveyard lawns, conceiled in memories, beneath superficial layers, outright deceptions-- and then, that juxtaposed to those still not lying-- the standing memories of an outstanding life lived-- those friends standing by you-- and a stand that stood for all the wrong reasons... I'd not be lying if I said it was an outstanding write. Right? Sometimes it's good to let the fabric of friendships fade. But don't you wish some colors (like green) would last forever, as vibrant and true as they ever were? --Charlie

So sad a write, not seemingly write. Everyone needs friends in their life. Fading away friends is some severe words indeed.
