Dignity

Poem Artwork

Dignity is his own reward,
And painful is his course,
For cascades of unattractive behavior
Seduce and lure;
A drug of sorts,
Producing the euphoria
Of undisputed power,
If only for the briefest of moments.
But those undignified among us
Have not the wherewithal to see
The illusion,
Obsessed are they with power
Contained within their own poor sphere,
And blinded are they
To dignity,
Which is his own precious recompense.

Dignity should be taught,
To those blighted souls
Ravaged within their genes,
For indeed, both dignity and honor
Are a dear inheritance
For a  fortunate few.
Alas, how does one instruct
That which is not bequeathed
Of the cache from within his loins;
And herein lies
One glory of humble humanity.

Dignity can be seen,
Even appreciated from afar.
It permeates the graced language
Of the venerable,
And teachers and mentors alike
Must say,
When lost upon the progenitors,
There is dignity,
Patient and strong,
Observe it and know it,
And within time
You may make it your very own.

Imagine a tranquil world,
Where peace and harmony abound,
No terror born of recklessness,
One where dignity and honor are strong.
Peace will reign, perennially,
And will be treasured
Forevermore,
If only we take in our hearts,
Him who is dignity,
And bid farewell,
Forever to the sword.

Hello Frank,

Powerful write! Dignity and honor commands respect anywhere, and even the worst of enemies, cower before a man of dignity. A blessing to read!

Very good point, Frank. Who needs swords where kindness and dignity dwell and reign? --Charlie
