No Lover's Embrace Undone

Poem Artwork

When we speak of this time
In retrospect,
It will be with sadness,
As we are, even now,
Searching for joy
To light the days.

The cruelest of lessons that we learn
Is that sadness shapes us too,
Leaving in its haunted wake,
An awareness not previously possessed.
So; we search for our blessings
Wherever we might find them,
And bear our sorrow solemnly,
Like a soldier just home from the war.

Loss endured spawns images
Of loss that may finally come,
Quaking my bones with fear,
Visions of events that I cannot bear,
Nights long and lonely
When I call your name out loud,
Here,
Or across heaven’s plain
You’ll hear me;
Your lost lover,
No rest till the search is oer.

Entwine within my arms,
Sweetest love of my life,
As I wrap strong legs around you,
And protect you in the night.
For when the angel calls our name,
We will be as one,
No bitter loss to feel again,
No lover’s embrace undone.

How sad a tale, yet you seem to embrace it all with sweet sentimental value....

Be always safe,

This is stunningly beautiful, Frank. Loss does make sentinels of us...guarding and watching over our loved ones still with us, in case the thief creeps in and steals again. I especially loved the last stanza of this beautiful romantic piece, however...

My sister's in-laws died earlier this year, within just a few days of each other...presumably they could not live without one another. I have told my husband that we should plan it that way too... hee, hee...

Merry Christmas, Frank!
