I never dreamed for a moment that I would see the world through tired eyes.
I never expected to gaze upon the stars through the
darkened clouds of winter.
I never expected to draw a breath that was devoid of hope.
And I never believed that beauty and love could vanish so quickly.
I am left only to ask,
Where are you now?
We never hear the eulogy that others give for us.
We can hope.
We can dream of what might be said,
Good or bad, we hope that it is truth.
Will they quote Shakespeare?
Will they send flowers?
Will they travel far to ask,
Where are you now?
As a young man, I cast a stone,
And then followed it, wondering where it might be found.
Deep within the darkness, looking up toward the light,
I cannot have both.
And I am left asking,
Where are you now?
But far above me, as I gaze upon the luminescence of granted light,
There is symmetry.
The gentle undulations seek the shore,
Each one touching and changing all.
A life, directed.
A spirit, connected.
A force,
Symmetry, progression, awareness, love, compassion, and wisdom.
Where are you now?
And so now I pray, that through the darkened clouds of winter,
That you can feel our love, as we feel yours.
And, as you gaze through our own tired eyes,
That you will know how you touched us all.
To be held captive within your strong embrace,
Was to be secure, to be safe, to be content, and to be loved.
Yes, Bernie, we know where you are now.
