Poem Artwork

Firs and ferns
And a low-lying mist,
And the sounds of nature
That I cannot resist.

Taking a step,
Or perhaps two,
I am content to stop,
And take in the view.

Squirrel Olympics,
A treat for my eyes,
Long jump, broad jump,
Platform high dives.

A raccoon scurries by,
Late for a date.
He stops when I whistle,
But is too hurried to wait.

A doe and her fawns
Eat grass far away.
Nervously curious
On this lovely spring day.

The treat, however,
In this world of forever,
Is that I can be alone.
And take in the beauty,
God's treat for me,
Away from the city,
But closer to home.

Elm and Oak,
Burl and Spruce,
Pine, Hickory, and Ash.
The warmth of the sun,
Begs me to come,
To the forest,
Where my Lord and I are one.
