The doctrine of contemplation,
Or what is known as Chan or Zen,
Implies seeing things in fine details.

The myriad things are all exist
Within the Dharma's body
To be perceived through dreams,
Mirages, flashes of lightning,
Shadows and their half-shades. . .

Some are like a night fireflies,
The short-living mushrooms,
The morning dew transient,
But some have plenty of guts,
Ability of a true thunderbolt;
Therefore, no matter what,
Do what you do as you see fit
To prove yourself in your Zen.

Got to know Zen to find enlightenment though to know the self is said to find that exalted place in this lifetime...however happiness & enlightenment is found is surely the way for you to find yourself...

As Richard says below, prayer works for some people, a kind of yearning from the emotional center. For others, its the mind, the focus, the moment, to achieve clarify before enlightenment. For others, it's the doing, as you seem to suggest here in this poem, whether it is the firefly and the dew, or "the guts" of the thunderbold. Different pathways that all arrive back at the source as prodigal sons. This poem stirs the imagination and aptly so, being titled Zen. John
