I have been told that our body
Is like a mirror's frame or stand
While our mind is like the surface,
Its brightly polished surface to reflect;
What's more, they say that time and
Again we need to flick the dust off it.
Some also say that an enlightened man
Is not like the mirror's frame and hence
There is no need to flick the dust off it.
You see, if it comes to that extent,
By flicking the dust away time and again,
We only evoke it to gather more. . .
Further to this score I would say
That the enlightened person's mind
Has nothing to do with the mirror's
Brightly polished surface. Essentially
And at large, there's not a single thing
In ourselves to which can dust adhere.
Once you can comprehend that
All the myriad things reduce to Infinity
Or simply Nothingness, you need not
Wander any longer from one Zen temple
To another for practicing with patience
Your 'zazen' or sitting still meditation.
