Poem Artwork

The fruits of trees and creeping plants

Have their distinctive characteristics;

And though the relationships of men,

According to which they are classified

In a scientific hurry-scurry, are troublesome,

The reasonable man, when he meets with them,

Does not set himself in opposition to them,

And when he has passed through them,

He does not seek to retain them either.

 

He responds to them in their regular harmony

According to his common sense; and even

When he accidentally comes across any of them,

He does exactly what fits the moment of time.

From time immemorial it was thus that

The cherry trees flourished to fall, thus that

The kings arose to be then overthrown. . .

The sad part of your poem is that our society is moving closer and closer to a new reality which renders your truth out of reach to many.
