I was once looking for

A teacher when I saw

An old man fishing.

But his fishing was no fishing --

That was not the fishing

Of a guy whose business

Is about fishing;

He was fishing as though

He had no objective

In his fishing trade.

 
Men may be possessed

Of the faculty

Of knowledge, but

They have no occasion

For its profitable use.

That what we call

The Perfect Unity

Of the stupid and clever

Leads us to follow

The Middle Course.

Indeed, many traditions advise following the middle course for the very reason that you state here in the poem. Avoid the extremes at all cost, advice that very few take to heed in this "age of extremes". John
