A dog is not reckoned good
Because it barks well;
A man is not reckoned wise
Because he speaks eloquently;
How much less can he
Be deemed intelligent!
If one thinks that he is well-versed,
He is not fit to be accounted
The intelligent person --
How much less is he so
From the practice of the attributes
Of the boundless Earth
And unlimited Heaven!
Very much less, I venture to state.
Now none are so greatly complete
As Heaven and Earth, but do they
Seek for anything to make them so?
He who knows this great completion
Does not seek for it;
He loses nothing and gains nothing;
He does not change himself
From regard to the outer things.
Instead, he turns in on himself
And finds there
An inexhaustible store of creation;
He follows Nature
And does not feel about
For its lessons -- such is sincerity
Of the truly intelligent!

On the other hand, we have everything to gain and nothing to lose by enhancing our intelligence. Not only will we be able to repair genes that will undoubtedly increase the intelligence of our offspring, we are on the verge of a mind/ machine symbiosis where we won't have to store large amounts of trivial information in our brains, but use them and their sources that are readily available like Google and GPS to enhance our intelligence, or at least how intelligently we behave once we have the facts readily at hand and easy to use.
