There're some spirit-stirring poets
Who dislike the flocking
Of the multitudes to them.
When the multitudes come,
They do not agree;
And when they do not agree,
No benefit results from their coming.
Hence there are none whom
They bring quite near to themselves,
And none whom they keep
At a great distance either.
They keep their virtues
In close embrace
And warmly nourish
The state of harmony,
So as to be in accord with
All kind and unkind folks.
They are whom we call
'The spirit-stirring poets for all.'
Even the knowledge of the ant
They do not put away; their plans
Are simply those of the fishes,
And they're able to implement them;
Even the notions of the sheep
They never flatly discard as an eyesore.
Their seeing is that of the clear eye;
Their hearing is that of the delicate ear;
Their minds are governed
By the common sense which
Is available to quite a few.
The spirit-stirring poets
Look on success as life
And on failure as death;
And then
They look on success as death
And on failure as life.
The operation of herbs
Can illustrate this occurrence:
Each of them has the time and case
For which it is supremely suitable;
And all such plants
And their suitabilities
Cannot be mentioned particularly
But only in a combined prescription.
Being such, their course is straight
As if marked out by a line,
And its every curve is in accordance
With the current circumstances
Of performance levels.
These people are able to wait
For the issues of events
As the arrangements of Heaven,
And do not by their human efforts
Try to take the part of the heavens.
I think you are calling for a common denominator. The kind of people who can tolerate all ends of the spectrum. The kind that keep the spectrum going even though they may disagree with one part or another of it. That's a good thing.
Unfortunately, I have cut myself off from certain dogma that leads to ignorance, hatred and violence. I have no court with it. I do not let it incubate or grow. Try to cut it in the nib before the masses accommodate to it until it is too late.
My partner showed me the herbs she got yesterday and cooked into a tea this morning. The tea smelled like crushed celery, was brown and quite bitter but not repugnant. Upon viewing the herbs to see if there are any animal genital parts, insects, or other dangerous or illegal substances, I discerned these: shavings of bark, dried mushrooms, dried orange peelings, leaves, and other, mostly vegetation, sometimes sliced in cross-sections that produce beautiful patterns that were framable as wall art. A potpouri very pleasing to view and smell.
Very perceptive. A gentle, but powerful insight, Alexander. I've mulled responding to this for some minutes. Ok then... Dig a hole 8 feet deep and bury everything that you've ever said, everything that you've never meant, and everything that has burned you and left you with nothing but ash. Then, after covering it, and tamping it down, begin to compose a poem. Very much enjoyed this. Made me think again. Peace... r
Sounds like the spirit-stirring poets know what they are all about, extending themselves when need be and holding themselves in reserve when need be. Sounds like good advice to me. I especially like your ending when you make reference to the "arrangements of Heaven" and that they do not "take the part of the heavens."
