Imagine happiness to be completely happy.
Remember that sense of magic feeling
When you wake up and rush down outdoor
To meet a new day of your life. Imagine
If every morn is like that, starting tomorrow.
Imagine waking up each morning clear-eyed
And precise, eager to seize the day by a sunray.
Imagine feeling so much energy and sheer joy
That you find yourself in the best physical shape,
A nearly unconscious biproduct of being lighted
From the inside. Imagine an inevitable success
To follow the track of your endeavours.
Imagine that and fix it in your mind to clone
Then time and again throughout all your life.
Imagine years from now on when you are old,
Looking around with your tears of gratitude
At legacy your happiness created, with children
And grandchildren who love and admire you,
And want to be like you. Imagine this feeling
And feel it every single instant of your days
To make your happiness be flourishing for all!
I have no children and hence, no grandchildren. But I believe that in my years of teaching I touched many lives positively. And, I have awakened every morning clear eyed and willing to face the day as best I could considering the obstacles placed in my way. I did the same this morning and will continue to do so. It's the only way I know. Life is happy. I am happy. I constantly have try to help other people be happy.
Just yesterday, while at the clinic, outside, waiting for my ride. A young man yelled out to me, "Where's your van? I happily explained that I no longer was driving and that it was being converted to carry me with someone else driving. I explained it with saying that I was removing $50,000 worth of obsolete computer equipment so that the van would be back to just a normal, lowered floor van. He was happy with that explanation and I was happy becoming a backseat driver in the suicide seat.
In 7th grade, my granddaughter's class made posters about themselves, answering questions. One of the questions was, who do you look up to?, and her answer was me. That not only made me feel happy, but proud as well. That poster is proudly displayed in our kitchen. But as far as being happy goes, happiness is just a state of mind.
Maybe the rules for happiness should be: something to do, someone to love, and something to hope for. Here's a quote that has always spoken to me. "Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared." Buddha. A fine roadmap in the pursuit of happiness. Regretfully, it's a lot of imagining, but many of these things never come true and even if they do, they don't last for long. Even if the grandchildren want to be like me, they take off on their own and I never see. That doesn't make me feel happy.
In "A Touch of Your Presence" are words that would inspire, encourage and strengthen one's soul when faced with challenges and difficulties and to know the awesomeness of God's power.
