No need to take some month-long trip
'To Find Your Self' by crossing India
Or Tibet and getting your soul back --
The steps may be shocking; however,
They are simpler than that you expect.
I mean no disrespect, but the fact is that
You and me, . . we are not actually free.
You and I, we are the present-day slaves
Of the Wall Street times. We are the guys
Who those in power feed upon and use up.
Proof is everywhere: governments rob us
Of our future when they rape and pillage
Our retirement savings; big corporations
Rob us of our health when they sell us
Harmful food and drugs to line their safes.
Around the world, millions of men,
Just like you and me, are going dead within.
Men once filled with hope and anticipation
Reduced to ghosts on the streets of cities,
The fire inside slowly turning to ashes.
If the modern day life makes you cynical
And pessimistic; if you feel a growing sense
Of futility and hopelessness; if you feel unable
To lead your family into the state of happiness
And prosperity you long to provide them with,
Leave the concrete jungle for subsistence farming.
Interesting take on the alternative to urban subsistence. I found my necessities far away from Hollywood after 60 years, and settled in Oregon, where nature, for the most part, goes along unimpeded... as well as humans that are, again, for the most part, unencumbered by the life-shortening existence that urban life is famous for. "Hope and anticipation..." was found once again when I subscribed to a Spartan life. Thank you for the write. A healthy reminder of what it should be all about.
Sounds like "sound" advice to me. It's actually one of the reasons why I like living here in Doha. It's a small manageable city without too much hassle. The heat can be rough in summer, but for that we have pleasant winters. So, I am not complaining. It's the next best thing to the countryside.
