Worlds Apart - A Poem
Strangers, Shadows, mingling with the night,
Police running, scurrying attempting to match the beat,
Hearts afire, midnight desire,
Screams impending, its lives ending,
Its last heart beat, its final breath exhaled into its last night.
2
Loners, people set apart, there, and over there,
People hovering over a dying flame,
Shrouded in coats, midnights oaths, coated in blood,
Their hearts moan, their lives no longer hold desire,
Their lives bleak, they have given in to their inner fright,
They know there is no hope left to them.
3
The riches, fireplace comforts, and chandeliers glistening like diamonds,
To their health they doth do drink, Christmas presents decked under the tree,
Laughter calling, still midnight falling, this the times of their lives,
They do not remember only a day ago the starving knocking on their door,
Or the ones freezing out in the snowing winter cold,
Only the drinks flowing freely their laughter thick in the air, concerns them.
4
The rich, yes they deserve their flirting, and dreams of even more,
Within the room young ladies sashaying within their young men’s arms,
These young ones wishes, their elders would hope them to come true , on this night of delight
A night of dreams and wishes, the men kissing their maidens with a sigh,
Now after midnight the elders all in bed their comforters wrapped,
The bed heating systems on, no cold will enter these rooms tonight.
5
Now below in the street the old and the meek,
They attempt to soak themselves in these glowing last embers of heat,
They do not laugh, they do not speak, two totally different worlds exist here,
The house above filled with plenty and bliss,
The streets below filled with pain and anguish,
Not known to one or the other,
That life could be in such total disharmony, yet taking place so close.

So it goes this life for some must end sooner than others,
One man slumped over, his back unable to carry the load,
He kneels, his heart beating as if to burst,
Finally it’s over, he lies in the snow, no beat of heart or weakest breath does his chest deliver,
Something much larger there was that the burden, all alone, he could not withstand,
Yet a flake of snow lands on his lips and seems to give a kiss from above,
This man not wanting to face this life alone.
