Ode To Verbosity

"To be, or not to be verbose -
Ah, there lies the rub!" Methinks ole Will would turn over in his grave if he knew what I was doing with the "English" language! BUT - in this "New Age" are we not all free to explore our individual "poetic license?"
So, if any of you fellow or fellowess author's are bored and seek a challenge - take this garBage' of mine and re-write it in Haiku or Tanka - Double-Dare you !

ODE TO VERBOSITY

Once I asked of a man, the time...

Whereupon he carefully did explain,

how to build a watch !

By the time he reached the answer,

naturally, I had ... missed my train !

To another lad, at another time,

I posed the same question,

to wit he did exclaim....

"Quarter past the hour of one",

which would have been fine...

Had I not been in another zone !

While I may prefer to take the train,

to relax, and remove my truss,

you might wish to warm your feet,

by rushing...to catch the bus !

Some regard brevity as a virtue,

and many might be succinct,

but, when one needs detail

to properly ken and think,

quite unlike a beautiful rose,

this extreme ... doth stink !

So, as there is a time ....

And a place .... for everything,

or so the saying goes ...

What is poetry to one, may be

to another simply ... prose.

You may take the high roads,

while I take the lows ....

When e'er we meet in Scotland,

.... only heaven knows.

You may get there quickly,

'Cause you are concise,

but ... as for me,

my friend, as you can see,

I'll choose my wordy vice.

For, as I stop along the path,

which you may deem verbose,

I shall have enjoyed ....

Both the beauty and the smell

of God's garden flowers ...

Especially ..... the rose !

Some may appreciate the scent of a rose most fully by stopping briefly. Others linger longer. There is much wisdom here.
