Thinking about big brothers and how I missed having one.

I NEVER HAD

I never had a big brother

I never had

Someone to look up to;

Someone to protect me

When the world got too small

And the bullies too big.

I never had

Someone to show me

The ways of boys;

The ways of men;

And how to navigate

The gulf between.

I never had

Someone to hold me

Or dope slap me

When I was being a goofball.

I never had

Someone to tell me

I was all right;

That my secrets

Wouldn’t consign me to hell.

I never had

Someone to assure me

I was loved

Regardless of what I thought;

Regardless of what I was;

Regardless of what I did.

I never had

A big brother.

I never had.

I have no big brothers, but I am one. Somehow I got all those things missed in your poem.

So heartfelt Chip!
I had four big brothers, so I can say you are right about missing out on the big bro thing...they taught me all the boy things I needed to know and I'm more boy than girl from it :))

You got one in me,Chip. I'm a boyish 75 and I can kick ass with the best of 'em. Just let me at 'em. But I have to tell you: You're on your own in the love department. Remember: left hook, then a right cross.
