 A RAINY DAY

Ferial Imam Haque

I am not made of Sugar and other water-soluble ingredients

Sure, I won't dissolve in the rain and flow along in the rain water

I must go out to do my shopping for my food and drink

So, I can eat and have the energy to go to school and learn

I can then get a job earn money to pay for my living expenses

But, I am strong and made of water insoluble ingredients

The skin that covers my body parts, my feet, face, and head

When I was a child, I learned - my head was most important

I often wondered why, because it is covered with my black hair

And my fingers tell me it is hard as rock and how can it crack

As I grew older and read about my head and its content

Actually, it was protecting the brain - which controls our activities

Oh! I said - so it is the home of all the mechanical parts of me!

These are made up of soft tissues, connecting to blood vessels

It is far too complicated for little old folk like me

I surrendered to learn and be happy and live in misery

What about the skin? I wonder what it is made of? I take a shower to

Clean me and body covered with dirt, feeling so good and fresh

But don't wash away with the water. WOW! My skin is better than

My rain coat - my mummy and daddy tell me to wear it on a rainy day,

End of school-day, the teacher will tell us

"Children don't forget your rain coats! It is raining."

So! I am happy with my story of "A Rainy Day!"

What a delightful way to look at ourselves! Humans are made of sugar and spice and we are so complicated Yet, we can also be so simple to enjoy just a few drops of rain. Well-expressed!
