Wafting down so gently through a chilly autumn breeze
A yellow leaf glides softly to a landing with such ease
Upon the crystal surface of a slowly moving stream
To later be a witness to my special autumn dream.
We walked through paths of color, and we walked there arm and arm.
The beauty though so dazzling could never match the charm
Of being there beside you on that perfect afternoon,
The while the leaf would glide to where we would be standing soon.
In time we saw the sparkles through the trees just up ahead,
And we would reach this place of dreaming just like I had said.
The sunshine on the water running deep, as it was cold
Gave beauty with its strength to make our fragile hearts more bold.
It’s then that I would say it, as I always had to do,
There’s nothing I have ever seen as beautiful as you.
It never matters where we are as long as you’re with me,
No matter what surrounds me it is in your eyes I’ll see
The love that I have waited for a lifetime, least it seems,
And any time I’m with you is a time that’s spent in dreams,
We thank God for this answered prayer- we gently kiss and cry,
And never even notice as the yellow leaf floats by.
Absolutely wonderful, John,
I only hope you are writing about yourself and else.
Very romantic. It makes me sigh.
You know how to express, what every woman wants to hear. Almost every woman.
