Second Chance

Last Saturday such a painful breakup.
Wednesday, a very special phone call.

Second Chance

I come into your presence like a cloud
Condensing to reality of being
And whisper without strength to speak aloud
For wonder at the beauty I am seeing.

We learned too late that signals had been mixed
Regretful sighs that asked, “What might have been?”
From one great loss, another has been fixed,
What should have been is going to begin.

You funny girl, you know you always had
My number, now at last you play your card
And break me up, I couldn’t be more glad
And with you I will never raise my guard.

I never could- you pierce my very soul
You always have- before we even met
I heard about you- then my heart you stole-
And now what we’ve been wishing for- we get.

So second chances really do exist.
Let’s thank our lucky stars we are the proof,
And love to make up all the time we missed
With happiness that takes us through the roof.

Yes we funny girls do have the number but sometimes call it anyway. Sentimental I suppose.

Thank you so much for posting this, John. This has been a rough day for me, trying to sift through memories, while trying to figure how to move past them. I really needed to read this and furthermore, your quote on your bio page really hit home with me, today. Thank you again.
Take care,
Jill
