Just For Tonight

Just for tonight as, gentle breezes blow

Outside where star light glistens in the snow-

And I, so warmly tucked inside my bed-

The thought of you keeps dancing through my head.

Just for tonight, with memories, aware

I used to turn and find you lying there-

And even if asleep you’d lean to me

In warmth that filled my heart with ecstasy.

Just for tonight, I’ll wipe away the tear-

Reminding me of when I had you here

Beside me in the calm of winter’s night

Just basking in the glow of candle light.

Just for tonight, I have to wonder why

A dream as good as us could ever die.

But maybe, what I’m feeling tells me now-

You left your love behind, with me somehow.

Just for tonight, that tear can be a sign-

I never really lost the love that’s mine.

The smiles that linger in that precious past-

Were born of love that somehow has to last.

Just for tonight, I’ll let myself pretend-

That you and I were love that could not end…

And you might think, just for tonight…the same-

As both our candles keep for us the flame.
