The night is softly falling and I’ll have to go to bed,
Again I have to wonder, was it something that I said?
The time I haven't heard from you is growing rather long,
I know you could be busy but it feels like something’s wrong.
I slip back into memories of all those precious days-
The laughter and the tears that linger somewhere in the haze.
And then the day the gods allowed me, meeting face to face-
It just does not seem possible, you’re gone without a trace.
The music’s softly playing, one more song I had to hear,
I know sometimes you play it, is it everything I fear?
You didn't get the memo; I'm a soul mate all alone-
I'll lay my life down at your feet and be a stepping stone.
At least I’ll know there was a day I heard you call my name,
That winning isn't everything; I got to play the game-
Without a trophy anywhere that other folks could tell-
I won't deny this heart of mine has loved you very well.

All he needs to do is read your poetry. Your music never ends.
Nor should it.
