What Am I supposed to Do?
Maybe there’s a day or two- in any given year,
When I don’t even think of you, or wish that you were here.
For sure- it isn’t more than that, a day if it’s that long-
Your name escapes my whispered prayer as if it were a song.
I break into a subtle smile. I glance but I can’t see-
The visions just remind my heart of what you mean to me.
I shake it off, be careful there, “it’s just another day”
I tell myself- but don’t believe a single thing I say.
Your smile is what I’m looking through- the glasses on my face-
You know too much, we both once stood and sung Amazing Grace.
I’ve held you like the future wouldn’t ever let you go.
There’s nothing I can tell you that you don’t already know.
Our lives just seemed to happen, but they’re not without their dreams.
We’re both so good and all is well, just not quite what it seems.
There may still be some reason though we sure don’t know it yet-
That this is just the way it is- a love we can’t forget.
What am I supposed to do? Never mind- sweet soul,
It’s still the greatest road to travel, even with the toll.
We’ll both just keep on singing, there’s still hope left in this voice-
The best of love around us always- it will make the choice.
