Keeping it sweet

All Too Easy

There’s other pretty girls I sometimes see-
But they don’t do the things you do to me-
That certain subtle smile-
An overdose of style-
You lock me up and throw away the key.

So innocently you come passing through-
I smile and wave, or maybe ask “What’s new?”
But oh what’s deep inside-
I’m hoping I can hide-
From Cupid’s arrows- what’s a guy to do?

A couple months may pass- or just a day-
Exchanging glances, wonder what to say-
But something in your eyes-
This may be no surprise-
A certain light that doesn’t go away.

But then one day you didn’t come around-
I caught myself just staring at the ground.
And something told me then-
Don’t miss a chance again,
This kind of thing is too hard to be found.

Then “Boo.” You went and nailed me to the wall.
“Ya miss me?” “My you’re quite the know it all.”
“A lot I must admit,”
An all too easy fit.
Now THIS is how you want the cards to fall!

So that’s the story, call it luck or fate-
Exchanging numbers, planning our first date-
So dinner and a show-
We both already know,
That this time it has all been worth the wait.

A really enchanting way of describing how men and women managed to come together against all odds. An eternal story told beautifully.

A very clever bit of rhythm and rhyme. I like the rigor and discipline of the poem, in addition to its charming, simple message. Well done. John.
