When I see you beside me
With that smile that makes me cry-
I wonder if I prayed you there
From somewhere in the sky.
It’s every way a miracle-
Your name’s an answered prayer.
I have to close my eyes
Then look to see if you’re still there.
You somehow look afraid but grin,
I briefly look away
To cope with all the love we’re in-
A loss for words to say.
Two offered hands that reach
Across our fears- the great divide.
I surely must have prayed you there
To feel this way inside.
There’s just this word- a miracle,
Forgotten in the past.
I glance at you again-
A prayer to make this moment last.
Our secret feelings spoken
As our eyes can’t look away.
We’re both afraid of miracles-
But this is one today.
Smile as we both take this in
And hold each other tight.
Whoever thought that we could win?
The world turn out alright?
Home was just a distant dream
Too weak to hope for bliss-
But then- I must have prayed you there-
For us to be like this.
