Soul Mates

Secret dreams would haunt us from the times we were a child-
No matter what life taught us there’s that secret dream we filed-
The heart just held it close inside- a secret from the stars-
In prison with our loneliness we peeked out through the bars.

As days turned into weeks and months and years that slipped on by
The two of us just took it in and never did ask why.
But somewhere in the silence we believed there was a song.
Today I looked at you and wondered why it took so long.

Silence never felt so good- we’re taken by surprise-
An author at a loss for words I gaze into your eyes-
Nothing held a candle to this moment we have now-
A love from all eternity is you and me somehow.

Just looking ‘till you smile and then I gently take your hand.
The tears from ancient oceans flow and we both understand-
The reason all could ever be is tasted in a kiss-
A dream come true , an answered prayer- for love to be like this.

The lights go out, we close our eyes, I hold you like my breath.
There’s nothing else for life to give- we’ve even beaten death.
We found each other in a dream of all that we could feel-
And God looked down and shook his head- and let it all be real.
