Whispers from Heaven

Evening upon me- a walk in the snow-
Haunted by memories so long ago.
Christmas lights sparkle but I close my eyes,
Never expecting a precious surprise.

Somehow inside me your image appears
All that you gave me from passion to tears
Somehow was saved in that place of my heart-
Eyes that are closed see this heavenly art.

Open to tears yet the Christmas lights shine-
Seems I just held you as if you were mine.
Yours were the eyes that were staring at me-
Time always hinting at how we could be.

I try to breathe- it’s a season of joy-
You have the power to heal or destroy.
Whispers from Heaven- your voice once again-
I go from nothing to most blest of men.

Time was the demon that took you away,
Gave you more blessings that I could- we’ll say,
There are a few that the both of us missed-
Only knew Heaven that moment we kissed.

Various lives that the two of us led-
Hinted at love that we should have instead.
One of these days may time give up the ghost,
As we confess who we always loved most.

A beautiful but mournful accounting of love acquired and then lost. The rhyming scheme makes it evermore beautiful to read.

Sweet enchanting lies in the beloved memory of love and so it also lies in this soulful poem of love lost and found.

The Heart's Way by Rebecca McKeehan

Love is universal and not limited to the most perfect among us. In this collection of romantic short stories and poetry, love comes to those who are decidedly imperfect, who possess very real human flaws, scars, and challenges. Awaiting us as we are.
