Our Love

Our love is not a love that might have been
If we had never gone our separate ways,
Oh no, our love is something we are in
And have been from the very first of days.

Our separate journeys taking us so far
Away from where the two of us could be,
But nothing changed the truth of who we are
No matter what becomes of you and me.

I thought I might rekindle this old flame
If Heaven granted such a wish be done,
But you were feeling all this time the same
Not knowing that our hearts were still as one.

To learn this now is not to learn too late,
The chances were that we might never know.
And even if to live is just to wait,
We now can wait with hearts that are aglow.

It matters not, we're wearing different rings,
The circumstances keeping us part.
Our memories are precious living things
That keep us ever bonded at the heart.
