I’ve read the poems and heard the songs and watched as lovers dance.
I’ve read two dozen novels that would tell me of romance.
I’ve watched the sleeper movies and I’ve cried when they were through...
But none of this prepared me for the likes of meeting you.
I’ve walked through Longwood Gardens when the roses were in bloom,
And through an art museum where such beauty filled the room.
I’ve gazed at scenic wonders as I’ve traveled near and far...
But none of this prepared me for the beauty that you are.
I’ve played a clown at Christmas and I’ve watched the children smile.
I’ve met a few celebrities and chatted for a while.
A million precious moments caused my heart to really sing...
But none of this prepared me for the wonder you would bring.
I’ve hit the winning homer to my teammate’s disbelief.
I’ve heard the words, “You’ve got the job,” and hid all that relief.
I’ve sat at grand head tables where a banquet was my meal...
But none of this prepared me for the way you make me feel.
I’ve never felt like this before – completely unprepared,
Confessing how I so adore each tiny thing we’ve shared,
And knowing that through all of this we’ve only just begun...
I am prepared to tell you that you have to be the one.
John.. it is a rare and treasured treat to finish a read and feel noticeably more lighthearted, warmer of spirit than when I began. This is not just a well-composed piece, its poetry wonderfully rhymed and metered, it also has a powerfully gentle glow about it. The last lines of each verse aren't forced at all to fit your theme.. they flow like a lovely stream. This is just a beautiful piece of writing. katy xox.
