Why is it the sound of your voice is more beautiful
Than all the music I’ve ever heard in my life?
I know I’m on the edge of the biggest laugh
I’ve ever known.
I peek out from the covers and look at your eyes.
Those sly, wicked eyes that have shed more tears
Than anyone has a right to,
Until you started sharing them with me.
It wasn’t a competition,
But when you saw, and heard on the phone-
The tears that would come from me,
Just listening to you, feeling what you feel,
You saw me like I saw you,
Naked emotions.
Well now we’re naked again,
But this is a whole lot better.
You do look pretty awful, I bet I do too,
But if I had to go blind I would beg
For you in this moment to be
The last thing I ever see.
Heaven really isn’t far from Hell.
Maybe just a few days or weeks,
And we didn’t even have to book a room.
If we could have known there was
This much love in the world,
And it would all be ours-
We could have saved the tears
For our own goodbye,
But it isn’t going to happen.
