Monsters and their defeat. Saving those that need saving. Watching for the day when those need saving.

I saw you today.

You drove past me.

You were driving him to see my kids.

I didn't expect to see you.

At first, the familiar hurt was there but then, there was something else.

I suddenly saw you as my savior.

And so, my friend, I wanted to thank you.

To express to you my gratitude.

If it weren't for you we would never have gotten away.

Because he has you,

we are reasonably safe.

When he filed my Dad said, "Thank God"

and meant it.

Maybe that was your doing.

Maybe not.

I'll never know.

But somewhere,

under the relief,

there is a sadness for you.

For you may have saved us,

but,

at great peril to yourself.

To your very soul.

He will suck the life out of you the way he sucked it out of us.

Maybe by then,

I will be strong enough to reciprocate.

To save YOU.

I am building a path.

And leaving clues.

Use them if you need them.

USE THEM WHEN YOU NEED THEM.

Beautiful, Marcia. To have compassion for the one who took your place is evidence of your generous, loving heart. This is quite an amazing poem; the last verse caps it so well.
