Christmas is fast approaching - This poem has been used, in its original form and arranged as a Carol, in Christmas services on four continents. It is written in the Celtic style.
We lay down, unworthy,
With the beasts in the fields,
In humble adoration we wait -
For he who comes lowly,
Perfection of Creation,
Holy Child we welcome you.
Calm seas lap the shores
In welcome.
Soft winds in the branches
Whisper welcome.
Whilst stars in the clear night
Look down on Bethlehem.
Streams babble and chatter
As birds fill the skies,
Waiting for the Herald Star
To point to where the Christchild lies -
Word made flesh to live among us,
Nature’s Lord and Holy Sacrifice.
Low man and high Angels
Join in celebration song,
The time has now arrived -
The child of hope is born
And this Holy gift from God
Declares, triumphant, a new dawn.
Meekness and Majesty,
Manchild and Deity
Be above and below us now,
Behind and before us now,
Both right and left guiding us,
Lighting, bright, the way for us.
Holy Child we welcome you.
Lord of Lords we worship you.
King of Kings we give thanks to you.
