I remember as a young girl, living on an Indian reservation in New Mexico. I felt a calm feeling of belonging, as I was taken under the wings of older women as they made jewelry. I have always had a strong bond with nature and animals, domesticated and wild. I know my grandmother who died at an early age was Native American Indian, and that is all I know over years of searching...and so I still search...

I feel your song, weaving wisdom

around barren land, you weep

I feel your presence, singing  stories

saddened by callous destruction

of land you loving cherished, you weep

You walked this country, prideful strides

with love and respect for all living things

Wise woman, always strong in spirit

your soul lingers, guiding your decendents

spreading your loving compassion, you smile

I searched high and low for signs of you

whispering to the sun the moon and trees

glancing at the stars, they sparkled knowingly

Communicating with all of nature's beings

they acknowledged your continuous presence

Still I search for more...

Beautiful Zenith! I, too, am still searching for information about my Cherokee grandmother, my father's mom. If we didn't love them, we wouldn't care :D.

Oh, Zenith, this is profoundly beautiful. I share your kinship with nature and wildlife: in fact, all things living. What a tragedy wrought by the settlers of this nation... a crime God won't forget. ~~Bonnie Q

A most worthy search. I think, particularly those of us in the arts will search for meaning and truth till the end of time. And to discover our roots. To feel a part of our own past I think is indeed, a worthy search. You have a beautiful spirit, Zenith, and it comes through loud and clear in your writing. Thank you.
