A new poem for a new book. Words of wisdom will be in my next poetry book, almost finished and with a cover picture, but as yet, no title - see my last blog.

Words of wisdom

‘Use your time wisely

It is not for you to waste’

‘Regret can last a long time

If you should act in haste’

‘Every day is important

Along the path we walk’

‘Every word connects somehow

With another as you talk’

‘Time will always pass’

My mother said to me

Now many years have sped

Since her life ceased to be

Her physical contact is no more

Since her body could not repair

But when I am in dire need

Those words are like a prayer

‘You should become a doctor’

A teacher told me one day

He simply said those words

Then went quickly on his way

I thought it would be impossible

But the idea began to grow

Then became reality

Forty years of work did show

‘It’s what you do, not who you are

To others be always kind’

Are the few words of wisdom

That I would leave behind

Will anybody listen?

And take these words to heart?

If they were the universal code

Lives would never be torn apart

Poem is copyright ACoatesworth2012

Poem will be in the next published book by Audrey Coatesworth - in the next few months - on Createspace and as ebook for Kindle. The title at this moment in time is undecided - see my last blog!

I was particularly taken by, “every word connects to another as we talk.” Yesterday, a woman I do not know called me up to talk. As we began to converse, she started talking. I wanted to respond to what she was saying, but could only do so by interrupting. Eventually, she just continued to talk, telling me all kinds of things I wasn't interested in about her life, her children, her cats and on and on and on without stopping or even taking a breath. Fortunately, after three hours of listening to her talk, she mercifully hit a button on her phone and disconnected us. Usually in a case like that, I call someone back. This time I didn't. I'm not looking forward to the next time she calls and follows one word with another.

Still Living on my Feet by Tichaona Chinyelu

Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep

Beside Still Waters by Jill Eisnaugle

Each person is but a grain of sand resting beside the sea. This thought sets the tone for Jill Eisnaugle’s latest poetry collection, Beside Still Waters.
