Janus, the God of doors, looks in two directions. America, a great nation, a suffering nation. My heartfelt accolades and concerns for a country that hosted my family for five years.

Bliss America

Wide country open blue sky

Freedom to roam

Ameridarkness

Special interests and greed

Built on ‘Indian’ blood

Wisdom roots of Law

Form a constitution for all

Foundation of wealth

Dark soul of money

Dried poisoned roots of love

Xray mushroom cloud

Science technology

Mental space campuses thrive

Humanity found

Power of pride

Self-righteous arrogance

Precursors of doom

Compassionate people

Good intentions loving care

Gleaming spring sunshine

Cold mainstream apnea

Empty media world silly chat

Quantified stupidity

White and black keys

Music’s elements of truth

Gershwin’s piano

One blue planet earth

Hosts many good countries

Love and bliss for all

Reply to Sara, Carma and Others: Don't get me wrong. I love this country, because it is unique and could lead to a meaningful world government. This means keeping the great American constitution, and strengthening international law and international organisations. For precisely this reason I'am sharply critical on a few key aspects of society, where change needs to occur - for the benefit of America, and our planet. Yes, America could be a template for the global future, if evolutionary change is allowed to happen.

Wonderful poem Franz. I like your analogy of America with Janus, looking forward and backward, beginning and ending, a transitional nation or rather a nation representing a transitional planet of nations. For all the pooh poohing the U.S. gets show me another country like it or better? Perhaps the U.S. is a template for the future. Throw the bad out the back door and welcome the good through the front.

Quite the picture of the drastic contrasts in our culture. Nice. I liked it.

Now you might wonder where my head is on this, but this reminded me of a saying I read about a good 'Curry':
It's too hot to eat
But too sweet to resist!

Mmmmm... can you make THAT out?

Keen observations -- I love this country, even as we struggle to overcome our bad, we shine in our good. Nicely done.

All countries are like this...and some are worse...
I take the good with the bad...and am grateful
that I live in a free country....floria

You make some good points Franz,I think the media one is best;-). I also think all nations have their flawless skin and their pock-marks, and everything in-between, we just have more of it;-)...
