This is not really a poem, but I want to share these thoughts anyway.
One of the most painful things we have to do in our lives is Letting Go.
Sometimes it is Letting Go of things...material things which mean a lot to us, even if only sentimental value.
It may mean Letting Go of feelings. When we hold sadness inside, and try to mask it with only a show of happiness, it is better to let it go, to feel the sadness so it washes through us. A good cry can be cleansing.
Sometimes, we have to let go of someone we care for very deeply when we realize that person does not care for us in the same way. Maybe it is best to leave them remembering us with whatever kind of feeling they do have for us. It may not be possible to hide our own deeper feelings for that person, which could make their life uncomfortable. Letting Go may be the best gift we can give them because they may realize how we feel, yet care enough not to want to hurt us.
Even when we know a relationship is not right, on both sides, or one person has a doubt about it, it is hard to let go of something that seems secure. We often accept less than the best because we can’t bear to let go.
There are occasions when we feel something wonderful for someone, but we don’t express it for fear of being rejected. Sometimes our feelings will be rejected. Yet, what if we withhold it from the one person who could very well be that One Special Someone in our lives and they too have been afraid to express their true feelings, or don’t even realize their true feelings yet! How sad that we may miss The Best for fear of Letting Go of the expression of those feelings.
Whatever the reason, or situation, it is never easy Letting Go.

Thank you Ann, I am struggling with these VERY emotions.... for nine months now.... never intended to fall in love him but I did.... does he know? I do not know but My precious husband of 29 years does and forgave me immediately and understands which makes it all that much more....something I have no perfect word for. Akin to horrible but with soooo much love intertwined.
You say it well ... letting go is never easy ... but sometimes it is just what needs to be done. Letting go doesn't mean you don't love the person ... sometimes it means you're allowing them to become the person they are destined to be. And what will be -- will be. Susan

I really like your style of writing. I think a true poet writes from teh heart.
You are right, it is hard to let go, there is so many deep ideas going on in this poem, all I can say is let go and trust.... thank you for sharing you are inspirational!

That was wonderful Ann.. you remind us of feelings we may not be aware of ... and if we are.. the importance of letting ge when someone we love does not feel the same way...

What if letting go (of the one person who makes you whole)leaves you in pieces. What if you thought it was the right thing to do (because you have another life and people to protect) and suddenly you can't function (with the mediocrity). Should you still have let go? What about you and your life?
There is no answer to this I know but I had to write the words, in case it helped.
You are an amazing person for taking the time to show others that many of us share life's requirement of having and dealing with emotional pain. You have my support...Look around the corner and your happiness will be there!
We all have to let go and sometimes others let go of us who don't know who we really are inside. But we can take it and you said it just right in your words.
Letting go of "the elephant in the living room” is very hard to do. It is a hard concept to cope with, especially when trust has been betrayed. But, there comes a time when we must let go or it will devour us. Nice work. Thank you for sharing. Don, Dream Weaver

Very hard for many and this is so spiritual and uplifting reminding us we are to learn to give up the Young master that came to Jesus asked him what shall I do to inherited the kingdom of God. The Lord spoke to sell all you have and give away. Then come and follow me the young lad just could not obey and follow when all he would of inherited was far greater than his earthly riches that will not leave with him and bring temporal relief and joy beautiful message powerful one Marguette.
I have been in all the places you've listed, both good and bad & you've expressed it more in depth of the truth of letting go. Good points.

No it is not dear Ann. We, as humans, are quite complicated, and ofttimes our emotions make it even that much more so. I related to this wonderful write completely.
My goodness, you words speak such truth and honesty. I think you have soken for many people there. I always find letting go is a big part of our lives; we all have to let go of something or someone.
