the surreal experience of a new freeway with no other cars in sight...

Waves of virgin concrete

seduced us up and over and in

Like a Georgia O'Keefe painting,

unfolding like petals,

edged with

steeples of electrical towers.

Utility formed into art~

She invited us to glide to

very heart of Houston--

to the museums,

ball park,

Medical center,

the cafes,

in less time than ever before.

The vast, empty, new tollway,

eerily traffic-free,

was like

a science fiction scene

after the bomb or before the invasion.

We giggled and dreamed of all

the places we would fly

on this new magic carpet.

Miraculously, it dropped us

back into our crowded

neighborhood, many stop signs,

and annoying red lights.

Home, home, home is where it took you. Not like a ship at sea flowing across vast waters and crossing African continents. Just rushing into it became another part of the daily routine. It seemed
to promise much but delivered litte. Enjoyed this poem dear Lady.

p.s. and like everything else you had to wait and wait and wait.
