I imagine that watching sons grow up is no easier in 2003 than it was three hundred years ago..

Muffled music emanates From closed rooms. You send silent computer messages To unknown soul mates. Don't be so smug-- Native teens sent smoke signals To maidens of dubious distinctions In distant villages before Pilgrims landed. Their mothers just kept stirring bear stew, nodding stoically.

Bess, excellent poem. When I was a kid we sent messages with smoke signals or by pony express until they graduated to homing pigeons. It was tough learning how to write small.(lol)
