This is one of many free verse poems that will appear in "Anxiety's Nest," a volume of poetry Romano hopes to publish in Spring 2011.

She sat in her chair.

You know, the kind that has wheels.

And air to breathe through plastic tubes.

She waging war within her body.

He stalwart, showing strength for her.

She a bit twisted, a bit slumped to one side.

Nodding out from moment to moment.

Holding her man in a cramped hand.

He with a smile and look that said every moment was important.

Looking lovingly into each other's eyes and beyond.

Into each other's souls.

Both not betraying their losses.

Not knowing,

What could have been.

Not knowing,

What will presently be.

They will be again soon enough.

Holding hands, running on a beach.

Beautiful and precise, like film stills. I like the moment you chose.

A very fine piece sir...the visual and the emotion real or percieved brushes the soul and it winces...well done

This is frighteningly familiar....my wife has extreme mobility problems, breathes oxygen 24/7. I sometimes look beyond where we are now ahnd wish we didn;t have to go through whatb is to come to get to where we are going.
