Something New

by Michael Charles Messineo — Read all 96 poems by Michael Charles Messineo

When your thoughts overwhelm your present reality,
it's time for something new.

Sunday, May 1, 2016

I’m sending signals out in fear

to no one I can see.

It’s part of my philosophy

to be or not to be.

My thoughts project my hidden needs,

much like ESP.

I’m shouting, can you hear me?

Responsibility.

The ball is in my court you see

for me to make the move.

I need some mental feedback,

to retain my astral groove.

Were you thinking of me today,

if not, I was of you.

My dead ends and my road blocks say

it’s time for something new.

your character's psyche, who strives for changes is understandable, Michael. As for his old friends, I do remember one parable, which briefly runs like this: one lad, before becoming a novice, was very poor and an abbot gave him a small hut, just adjacent to the temple. The lad was so grateful that he took to cooking ten pancakes a day as a gift to the abbot. Each time, upon receiving the pancakes, the abbot used to give back one of them to the lad with the words, "And I present you with this one. I wish your sons and your son's sons ever-increasing prosperity!" This caused the lad to wonder. "What does it mean? I present him the pancakes but every time, one of them he returns as though it were his own gift for me..." At last, he went to ask the abbot directly. "You present me, I present you. What's that to you?" was the reply. . . What sort of 'something new' the hero of your poem is looking for, Michael? Cheers, alex

I believe Shakespeare said it first… "Something about friends that knew him well." One things for sure, all of Shakespeare's friends and the friends of his story heroes are long gone and buried.
