Why do you run away
When you see me looking back at you
And try to deny my existence is true ?
My love is the reality you see today.

Let down many times, even betrayed
By the friends you thought you had made,
And now maybe you treat others like dirt.

You have built a wall
Around yourself, an impregnable barricade
To protect your heart, your smile a façade
Hiding the fear that again you may fall.

Afraid of vulnerability
Holding all and sundry at arms length,
Sad and lonely, thinking it strength
To go it alone, protecting your fragility.

You only hurt yourself,
Allowing the poison of bitterness
And cynicism to chase away tenderness
That could be yours, come down off your shelf.

There was a man forsaken,
Let down, betrayed, scourged and spat upon,
Nailed to a cross until all life was gone,
But He forgave all, though His life was taken.

He reaches out to you
Through hearts overflowing with love
That He has poured out from Heaven above,
A precious gift He wants to give to you too.

Love He shares
Agapé love that shines like a light
In the darkness, don’t continue to fight,
Open your heart to the one who cares.
