Living with cats is never boring but you never know what they are going to surprise you with next.
Pity the poor mouse
running loose in our house
brought home by the cat
and dropped on the mat
it ran for its life
didn't mean to cause strife.
The cat made such a clatter
didn't think it would matter
the noise woke me with a start
disturbing the beat of my heart
I thought it was a warning
its only Four in the morning!
Do we have an intruder?
what could be ruder.
I'm not going to shout
as cat knocks things about.
Schatzie will soon get bored
and peace will be restored.
Now I am wide awake
and mouse has a chance to escape.
I need a nice hot drink
a good cup of coffee I think.
So I am back in authorsden
and watching the crows again!
Nice story poem. You reminded me of the time we got a half grown kitten and immediately it was playing with a mouse in our dining room. And then pregnant, a short while later, forcing my wife to take her back where she got her.
But, yesterday morning I saw the mockingbird I had seen the day before on the wall. Mockingbirds are really native to Texas and we have always had them here. But I hadn't seen any recently.
Anyway the mockingbird came to drink from our bird bath set on a glass table. The mockingbird wasn't interested in the water but pecking away at the table as though there was some food there that I couldn't see.
One of our unwanted cats began sneaking up underneath the table, and then made a jump from underneath to grab the bird with its claw as it struggled to get away at least three times and was caught again. Three other cats suddenly appeared, ending its life.
It was sad to see. It may have been a young bird claiming an empty territory. Mockingbirds usually are more savvy when it comes to cats and hawks.
