Where Have You Gone?

Where Have You Gone, Danny, dear Danny?

I’ve missed you since you’ve gone away.

I’ve been fighting a war for freedom, Sweetheart.

And a bullet got in my way.

Where Have You Gone, Donald, sweet Donald?

Since you’ve gone my life is so blue.

I’ve been off to war, fighting for peace,

So, I won’t be coming to you.

Where Have You Gone, Laddy, my Laddy?

I miss your knock on my door.

I’ve gone overseas to fight in a battle

Off, on a distant shore.

When will you come home, O’ Laddy, my Laddy?

Will you come home after the war?

But he never replied to her letter this time

And  he never returned anymore.

Ahh, god, Lonny... I felt a physical reaction to this. The juxtapositioning of sweetness with horror, done so movingly, first
gave me goosebumps as I read... at the end I just gasped... I heard myself. You've delivered reality and truth with the
kind of emotion that cuts deepest... your gentle touch has penned, as Yeats wrote, a "terrible beauty." katy xox.
