I walk up to the house,
place the mail in the box
and start to walk on,
but the sound of angry voices
stops me in my tracks.

A man and a woman arguing.

I can hear things banging around
inside and wonder, as I have
so many times before, should I
let them fight it out, or dial 911?

"You don’t love me!" the man shouts.
The woman yells back, "All you want
to do is drink beer and f***!"

There is a long silence, then the sound
of a rear door banging shut.

Their garage is in the back alley.
I can’t tell which one is leaving,
or know if it's for better or for worse.

Sadly, a tale all too familiar in all walks of life.
The clarity of these little gems of yours is testament to your phenomenal skill with words.

As you know, I've met this poem before Steve, but a second reading no way lessens my appreciation of it. I like the way you manage to stick to the main points, without ever using too many words. And that last line is a beaut!

Next Arrivals by Robin Ouzman Hislop

Robin Ouzman Hislop's poetry is certainly in dialogue with some of the key architects of the 'poetics of indeterminacy' – both the Modernist strands represented by the likes of Beckett and Stein, and the postmodernist strands represented, initially,
