See this coin I almost stepped on?
See how it no longer reflects the sun?
Once it shone so bright
all on its own
Brand new to life with a whole
world ahead of it to explore...
See how worn and faded the designs are?
Work and time have dulled its edge
I wonder where you've been
and all you've seen
In the strange life you must have
lived
You must have many stories
You must have traveled far
You must've been there in the nick of
time...
and wished on like a falling star
See this dull coin that I hold now?
How on earth did you get here with me?
Some people disregard you,
take you for granted, even want you
gone,
but it's your date that makes you
precious—
'cause you're the same age as me.

Oh my this is such astute observation, questioning and realization...what a fantastic lil piece!

Oh, I really like this poem, such truths it contains. And I know how you feel about its age, because I found one recently with my age on it and I was very happy!
This book represents a thirty-day period of my poetry journal. Each poem addresses
the dominant thoughts occupying my mind during the early morning hours of a given
day.
