It's just heartbreaking
the headlines read
So many lives lost
So many dead
Raw sewage running in the streets
people left with no place to meet
and nothing to eat
churches gone
homes are too
family's separated
most feared dead.
80% New Orleans underwater
110 confirmed deaths in Mississippi
Oil prices climbed
above $70 dollars a barrel
$25 billion in insured losses estimated
Buildings collapse, homes destroyed
Lives in complete utter turmoil
Along the gulf coast
bodies floating
must push them away
to get to the living
people wade in water so deep
must put children up high
or be swept off their feet
We here away from the damage
feel the crunch
when we pull up to the gas pump
Prices are raising
temper's are short
They thank God that
they were not under that cloud
And forget how much has been loss
As a extra dollar is tossed
Katrina, you've left in your wake
death, destruction, and pain
People walking around with no aim
Clean up will take weeks and months
no phone lines
hospital's evacuated
no running water
except for that left after your passage
We cry out Dear Lord
Please have mercy
as we reach out to our fellow man
Show them your grace
and all of your mercy
let our help come shining through
in this their time of need
let us send what ever we can
and not count the cost
for look at all that they have loss
We thank you Lord because
we know you've heard
each and every plea
as we pray
In the wonderful name
of your son, Jesus
Amen
