Sailing on the ship called love.......

Poem Artwork

The ship was called love

She was sleek and fine at one time

Her devotion and love

was sought after several times

But of all she choose one to steer her

She was damaged once

Even though not much left but just a hull

She was not beyond repair

But still she refused to move

She stayed in her moorings

Why Stay moored to life’s dock

Letting the barnacles attach

Row after row

Her sails rot

Her wood become brittle

and split, from lack of attention

When the waters became treacherous

and it was thought she might go a ground

She sailed on

Moving out of the gray mist

The swells

The turbulence

No matter

She sailed on to a better day

One where she could make her own way

Some screamed and said she went the wrong way

Turn around, said they

Don't be so bold

Do as you've always been told

Reverse and recover the same

turbulent waters

She choose not

For what was lost was to small to find

She listened not and opened her up

Life was short

One life to live

Must give it all you've got

Better to reach out and grab hold of a

Stiff strong wind and steer your

course on to calmer waters

and a beautiful destination.

The destination of love

Dare to break free

Dare to sail

Dare to breathe

Guaranteed to make even the most hardened of emotional "landlubbers" long for the stiff breeze of romance to carry them away to spice-filled cities and daring, life-changing relational landscapes. Wonderfully sustained metaphor here which carries the reader fully along from the first line to the last - breathless, at that! Makes me long for that bracing wind fresh upon my own face! Crack that bottle of New Year champagne hard against the hull and launch out into the deeps of a brand new calendar, Tina! Prayers and love for much health and happiness in 2006. Bless you and TY Kate xx

Next Arrivals by Robin Ouzman Hislop

Robin Ouzman Hislop's poetry is certainly in dialogue with some of the key architects of the 'poetics of indeterminacy' – both the Modernist strands represented by the likes of Beckett and Stein, and the postmodernist strands represented, initially,
