A Look back in time to a happier time....

Poem Artwork

The land was beautiful

and draws me still

to the big two story farm house

up on a hill

Grandma standing in the doorway

Shading her eyes

as she watches Katie

riding a short distance away

Poppa out in the fields

cutting the hay

Yes, it all takes me back

to a happier day

"Dinners ready", Grandma calls

Mashed potatoes with gravy,

fresh hot dinner rolls,

with home-churned butter

pork chops, golden brown

from the hog killed last fall

sweet corn on the cob

stright from the garden

and snap peas, snapped by

Grandma and me

Poppa sitting thanking God

for it all

Yes, thats the best memorys of all

Poppa worked hard all day long

followed the mule

as it pulled a plow along

Grandma weeding

to keep her garden neat

So we would have fresh vegestables

to eat

There were cows to milk

and chickens to feed

that chore was left to me

Clothes hung out

on the line

breeze blowing them dry

and the smell of warm sunshine

The fields lay fallow now

Its been years since they've seen

a plow

My memory's are all I have now

But in them I still relive

warm summer days

the kids at play

and the smell of fresh hot apple pie

and Grandpa's hay

If I could only return

to yesterday

But I'm already there

so in my mind

I'll play

Our wondrous memories of happy times truly can get us through far more difficult times if we only let them. And your poem just brought back many happy memories for me of time I spent with my very loving grandparents, and I thank you for that, Tina!
